HOA Connect Houston’s June 24, 2026 Board Workshop, Maintenance Matters for Your Community, brought HOA leaders, board members, and industry professionals together at the Williamsburg Settlement Clubhouse for an evening focused on protecting community assets, reducing risk, and planning maintenance before problems become emergencies. The workshop emphasized that well-maintained amenities are not just a matter of appearance, but a core part of resident satisfaction, property value, safety, and long-term financial planning.

The evening opened with Heather Dominy, President of A-Beautiful Pools, who spoke about pool maintenance, compliance, liability, and long-term planning. Her presentation framed community pools as one of an HOA’s largest and most visible assets, noting that residents may never know when a pump has been repaired, but they immediately notice when the pool is closed. She encouraged boards to take a proactive approach by monitoring equipment, budgeting for replacement cycles, communicating regularly with vendors, and addressing warning signs early. Key topics included pumps, filters, chemical systems, heaters, plumbing, plaster, tile, lighting, drain covers, county inspections, code compliance, and the life-safety responsibilities that come with operating a pool.

Russell Harms with Katy Brothers Pressure Washing continued the maintenance theme with a practical look at power washing, soft washing, and exterior upkeep for HOA common areas. His presentation highlighted the types of community assets that often need routine cleaning, including walking trails, pool decks, monuments, clubhouses, walls, and other public areas. He also explained the difference between pressure washing and soft washing, emphasizing that the right method and equipment matter when protecting surfaces and preventing organic growth from quickly returning.

Together, the presentations reinforced a common message: successful communities are proactive, not reactive. Whether caring for pools, monuments, sidewalks, walls, or other shared facilities, HOA boards benefit from asking the right questions, planning for future repairs, using qualified vendors, and treating maintenance as an ongoing risk-management and budget-protection strategy.

Attendees left with practical guidance for protecting major community assets, improving resident experience, reducing liability exposure, and making smarter maintenance decisions. The workshop also reflected HOA Connect Houston’s continued goal of helping board members sharpen governance skills, build vendor relationships, and strengthen their communities through education and collaboration.
