For homeowners association boards, a dependable management team can make all the difference in how smoothly a neighborhood operates. Behind that service are the people who answer homeowners' questions, help boards navigate difficult decisions and keep communities running day to day. At SBB Community Management, those employees are also giving their own workplace something worth celebrating.

The Texas-based community association management company, a Founding Member partner of HOA Connect Houston, has earned the No. 69 ranking on the Fortune Best Workplaces in Texas™ 2026 list in the small and medium business category. SBB is also celebrating its third consecutive year of Great Place to Work Certification, recognition based on employees' firsthand experiences with their employer.

According to the company's Great Place to Work profile, 90% of SBB employees say it is a great place to work, compared with 57% of employees at a typical U.S. company. For an organization whose business centers on serving HOA boards and homeowners, the results offer a look at the people and workplace culture behind its community management services.

SBB Employees Celebrate Three Years of Great Place to Work Certification

SBB's third consecutive Great Place to Work Certification gave employees in both its Houston and Dallas offices an opportunity to step away from their daily routines, enjoy a meal together and celebrate the colleagues who helped make the recognition possible.

In Houston, the team marked the occasion with decorated tables, lunch, prize raffles, company shirts and gifts for employees. Amy Hoechstetter, Vice President of SBB Community Management, shared her excitement about the recognition and the people behind it in a recent social media post.

"Most people like their job and a few of the people they work with, but would they overwhelmingly say it is a GREAT PLACE TO WORK - three years in a row?" Hoechstetter wrote. "SBB employees did! It’s certified!"

For Hoechstetter, who works out of SBB's Houston office, the celebration was as much about spending time with coworkers as it was about receiving another workplace honor.

"The best part was that no matter how many times we’ve gotten together, it still felt special," she shared.

Meanwhile, employees at SBB's Dallas office gathered for their own celebration, complete with Southern comfort food, rolled ice cream, raffles and goodie bags. SBB President Vanessa Burch, who is based in Dallas, shared photos and reflections from the gathering in an October 9 LinkedIn post.

"There was no better way to celebrate than with the people who made it possible," Burch wrote.

She also expressed appreciation for the care and effort SBB employees bring to their work, both in serving the communities the company manages and supporting one another.

"This certification reflects what our team experiences, and I'm proud of the workplace we've built together."

Although the celebrations looked a little different in Houston and Dallas, both offices spent the occasion recognizing the employees whose feedback helped SBB earn its third consecutive certification. For a company whose work depends heavily on relationships, teamwork and service, it was an opportunity to celebrate those qualities within its own organization.

What the Fortune Best Workplaces in Texas Recognition Means

The Fortune Best Workplaces in Texas list recognizes companies for their workplace cultures using employee feedback collected and evaluated by Great Place to Work, the organization behind the widely recognized Great Place to Work Certification program.

While the Fortune ranking and Great Place to Work Certification are separate distinctions, both place considerable weight on how employees experience their workplaces.

Great Place to Work uses its Trust Index Survey to evaluate five key aspects of workplace culture: credibility, respect, fairness, pride and a sense of belonging. Employees respond to 60 statements, two open-ended questions and demographic questions, providing insight into leadership, workplace relationships and organizational culture.

Companies seeking certification must have at least 10 employees, complete an organizational questionnaire and meet survey participation requirements. Certification generally requires approximately seven out of 10 employees to report consistently positive workplace experiences.

At SBB, the survey results provide a more detailed picture of what employees appreciate about their work environment.

According to the company's published Great Place to Work profile:

  • 95% say they can take time off when they believe it is necessary.
  • 93% believe management is competent at running the business.
  • 93% say their facilities contribute to a good working environment.
  • 93% feel good about how the company contributes to the community.
  • 91% feel a sense of pride in what the company accomplishes.

Employee comments collected through the survey also frequently reference teamwork, leadership, professional growth, support, training, flexibility and trust.

For HOA board members exploring community association management companies in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Austin, and across Texas, the recognition offers another meaningful look at SBB's company culture and the people behind its services. A positive workplace environment can help support the strong relationships, teamwork and consistency that matter when serving homeowners and their communities.

Decades of Community Association Management Experience Across Texas

SBB Community Management has built its business around the day-to-day responsibilities of homeowners associations, from financial oversight and board governance to vendor coordination, homeowner communication and long-term community planning.

Founded by Fred Shapiro, who is now retired, the company has deep roots in the Texas community association management industry. Shapiro spent more than four decades in the field, earning the Professional Community Association Manager (PCAM®) designation and serving in leadership roles with the Community Associations Institute (CAI), including as president of its Dallas-Fort Worth chapter.

Today, SBB maintains operations in Dallas and Houston, serving community associations with an emphasis on professional training, technology and client service. The company holds the Accredited Association Management Company (AAMC®) designation, an industry credential recognizing management companies that meet established professional standards.

That commitment to professional development is reflected in SBB's leadership team, which brings together extensive experience in HOA operations, real estate, construction, customer service and association governance.

President Vanessa Burch, who joined SBB in 2006, has helped develop the company's manager education programs while overseeing board satisfaction, management operations and organizational growth. Vice Presidents Amy Hoechstetter and Michael Cruz contribute experience in community management, business development, real estate and construction, while Jake Turner, Vice President of Client Relations and Technology, focuses on client service and technology initiatives.

The company's community management operations are supported by Directors Shalisa Abonyi, Mike McMahon, Khara Mathews, Leanne Ladew and Michelle Alvarez, whose combined backgrounds span decades of association management, developer relations, financial planning, governance and team development. Director of Business Development Jean Sloan brings more than 30 years of commercial and residential real estate experience, including work with developers and HOA transitions.

Several members of the leadership team hold advanced industry credentials through CAI, including the PCAM®, Certified Manager of Community Associations (CMCA®) and Association Management Specialist (AMS®) designations.

The range of experience is particularly relevant in a market like Greater Houston, where HOA management companies work with everything from established residential neighborhoods to growing master-planned communities navigating developer transitions, capital improvements and changing homeowner expectations.

Why Workplace Culture Matters in HOA Community Management

Homeowners may not always see the work happening behind the scenes at their management company, but they experience its results.

When an HOA board needs help preparing an annual budget, responding to a homeowner concern, coordinating maintenance or understanding its governing documents, it relies on community managers and support staff who understand both the technical requirements and the people involved.

Those responsibilities can become especially demanding in fast-growing areas of Greater Houston, where new residential development, expanding amenities and evolving community needs create additional work for association boards.

A management company's ability to train employees, maintain experienced teams and support professional development can influence how consistently it serves its clients. Research from Great Place to Work also associates positive workplace cultures with stronger employee retention, productivity and organizational performance, although an individual company's certification does not guarantee those outcomes.

For SBB, employee development has long been part of its approach. Burch's involvement in the company's education committee, along with the advanced professional designations held by members of its management team, reflects an ongoing investment in the specialized knowledge required to manage community associations.

The company's recognition is also relevant to HOA Connect Houston's network of volunteer HOA board members and industry partners. As a Founding Member partner, SBB is among the organizations supporting the professional connections and educational resources that help Houston-area HOA boards make informed decisions.

A Recognition Shared by the People Behind the Communities

The Fortune Best Workplaces in Texas ranking adds another distinction to SBB Community Management's history, but the company's recent celebrations focused less on the ranking itself and more on the employees who helped earn it.

Between Houston’s decorated tables and team lunch and Dallas’s Southern comfort food and rolled ice cream, the celebrations gave colleagues a welcome break from busy schedules to share a meal, swap stories and celebrate each other’s hard work.

Community management takes teamwork, and these gatherings celebrated the people who help managers, HOA boards, homeowners and service providers stay connected every day.

SBB's third consecutive Great Place to Work Certification and No. 69 placement on the 2026 Fortune Best Workplaces in Texas list recognize an employee experience that its own team members have rated positively. As the company continues serving associations across Texas, those employees remain central to the work taking place in neighborhoods every day.
